The article titled “The effect of knowledge on healthcare professionals’ perceptions of obesity” was written by Wynn, Islam, Thompson, and Myint in 2018, researched the knowledge of healthcare personnel’s perception of obesity. The article’s main objective was to ascertain the link between the knowledge on obesity and obesity prejudice among healthcare personnel. The study involved a qualitative research method that no statistics or numbers analyzed to conclude. The method specifically involved gathering information on Attitude towards Obese Person, ATOP(1) using the obesity risk knowledge scale, ORK-109(2).

The participants of the study were a total of four hundred and thirty-six persons. Three hundred and seventy-two participants were able to complete the analysis. The participants involved pharmacists, operational departments professional, healthcare care assistance, nurses, junior doctors, and consultant. The results from the study were sent for analysis to HCP groups. The HCP from a trustee in East Anglian NHS made a correlation between the two scores after gathering the data in the interview.

The research results indicated insufficient knowledge among the healthcare professional, and they also demonstrated a high level of obesity prejudice. The article recommends that healthcare workers across the globe take more additional courses to enhance their knowledge of obesity. According to the article, healthcare should improve their understanding through targeted educational strategies available in most parts of the world (Aljefree, Lee, & Ahmed, 2017). Obesity is affecting many people particularly in the United States. It is the main cause of other diseases that involve all the healthcare workers. In my opinion, I think cases of obesity affect every healthcare worker regardless of their specialization. Therefore, every health care personnel should acquire more knowledge on obesity through workshops, seminars, and benchmarking (Nørtoft, Chubb & Borglykke, 2017).
