One November 4, 2008, Barack Obama became the first African American elected as President of the United States. In 2012 he was reelected. 
Explain the importance of Barack Obama being elected the first black president in U.S. History and Michelle Obama becoming the first black First Lady. Some pundits and Americans declared that Obama’s Presidency indicated that the U.S. was indeed (or at least ushering in) a post-racial era. Do you agree? Why or why not?
