Beginning with Glass Menagerie and including “Harvey”—and taking into account these very different plays were written and produced in about the same period, what makes each of these plays special? Why do you think they’ve lasted on the stage for decades?  Set each of the plays in the context of when they were written. What was going on in the country when they were created? What societal climate existed in the United States when these plays were first produced? How do you think that influenced how or why the playwrights wrote the plays?  How were the plays first received by the critical community? (Feel free to quote particular critics, both positive and negative.) Do you think that these plays deserve to have a lasting influence on American drama today? If so, why? If not, why?
