There are pros and cons to everything, what I have learned is there is four main benefits of free trade establishing land use innovation and competition generates economic growth, disseminates democratic values, and fosters economic freedom. These are all great for citizens. On the other hand people are afraid of the jobs created by globalization are often less sustaining and secure than the livelihoods abolished by it in poor countries.

I do believe modern land use laws are necessary. The beginning of the common law out dates the industrial revolution by about 100 years. That being said, when the common law was first beginning there were no industrial businesses or factories, just people with farm and maybe a couple animals to live off of. This made it to where it did not really matter what people did with their land since they lived on large parcels with maybe a couple sheep and cows. Nowadays, people not only want to use their land for their own use, but above all have the enjoyment of their land and that is keeping the factories and industrial business in their own area of town and peoples homes and places of business in another.
