The first paragraph should provide an analysis of the overall narrative structure of the film. You should attempt to identify the major stages in the plot (i.e., establishment, complication, and resolution). Moreover, you should attempt to identify the importance of character and character development in this narrative. You should also note the extent to which this film conforms to any set of genre conventions. Finally, you should discuss whether the narrative is restricted or unrestricted.
The second paragraph should provide a detailed analysis of one particular scene or sequence in the film that demonstrates the contributions of various cinematic techniques (i.e., production design, lighting, camera angle and movement, editing, theme music, etc.) to the narrative of the film. In short, you should attempt to explain how these techniques contribute to the telling of the story. Be careful to choose an important scene, one that is important to the narrative or to the exposition of a character.
Your paper will be judged, in large part, on your ability to analyze the narrative of this film in terms of plot and character development. What makes the film interesting to the viewer? Why do we care about any of the characters? How does the film manage to hold the interest of the viewer until the very end?
This paper should be no more than three double-spaced typewritten pages in length.
