Assignment: Business processes

Assignment: Business processes

Respond to

Business processes are important important because they describe how things are done and then provide the focus for making them better and how they are done determines how successful the outcomes will be. If you focus on the right processes, in the right way, you can design your way to success. (Improving Business Performance by Addressing How Things are Done, 2013)
The different processes pertaining to the operation of a business-like, strategy development, product development, systems to produce goods and services and order fulfillment are vital to conducting business operations.  If one area is not operated effectively the others will perform poorly and hinder the business.  According to Vonderembse & White, Management needs a strategic, top-down view of operations to successfully link corporate strategy and operating strategy (2013, section 2.4).ion 2.4).  Processes create opportunities for the development of ideas and products/services for the buyer interested in doing business and purchasing goods.
*Strategy development “ It can be very difficult for a company to meet and exceed goals without a strategy to get there. A business needs to plainly share the goals and standards that they wish to achieve and uphold. The operations team can then break down each operation and strategize how they are going to assist. Developing a strategy requires a team with specialized knowledge from different functional areas or disciplines (Vonderembse, White, 2013, section 2.4).
*Product development “ To prosper, a business needs to create a product that is wanted or desired by an explicit group of individuals. When that product is created, adds must be designed by the appropriate team, then market the product so that other “groups” of customers will see the value of the product and buy it. Deprived of product development, the merchandise could remain as just part of the inventory of items not sold or, even worse, sales could decrease.
*Systems to produce goods and services – “A system is a group of items, events, or actions in which no item, event, or action occurs independently” (Vonderembse, &White, 2013, Sec 1.4). Without system development, chaos would ensue. Productivity would be terrible and the company wouldnt be able to reach any of their goals, the cost would be high as there would probably be a lot of mistakes made.  The systems to produce the goods/services are the overhead part of a business “ building, equipment, and staff is some examples.
*Lastly, the order fulfillment, creates the steps to bring the companys product and customer base together and this is crucial for any business.  When the company doesnt provide the item requested or it is not available due to no inventory they will lose business.
All processes are equally important to the organization. Nevertheless, I believe that without strategy development, the other three processes will not be able to fulfill their purpose and have the opportunity to be successful.
Creating corporate strategies is necessary for the development of a plan that will help the firm accomplish its goals, increase revenue and solve any problem in the operation of the business or even prevent them from happening. An advantage that can be achieved by improving operations should be pursued because it fits the organizations overall goals, not because it fits a narrowly defined operating objective (Vonderembse, White, 2013, section 2.5).  Strategy development maps out a path, action plan, the business will make use of the processes and create tasks, keeping in mind the objectives of the firm, succeed in the industry and rise above its rivals.

Business processes are important as they determine a set of work activities with a preferred order, an identifiable beginning and end, inputs, and clearly defined outputs that add value to the customer (Vonderembse & White, 2013). Business processes such as strategy development, product development, systems to produce goods and services, and order fulfillment are all important processes in order for a business to provide a successful good or service to its customers. Products and services need to appeal to the customers, and by correctly marketing and planning each business process, will ensure the end result is successful.
Each process has its unique importance in the progression of product or service accomplishment. Strategy development according to Vonderembse and White (2013) consists of the organizational goals and the methods for implementing such goals. Strategy development is important, because it helps organizations determine how they want to complete the overall project, and the approach to getting to the final product or service. Product development is the creation of a product based on features that offer new benefits to the customers. Product development is important as each product is modified to the customers wants and needs. Customers want to buy products based on their own wants and needs, and without developing those needs into a product, then the product will fail when released. Systems to produce goods and services is the transformation process of common resources into goods and services. Labor, machinery, and even capital are all examples of systems that produce goods and services. Without the means of production, then the next business process of order fulfillment is not possible. Order fulfillment is the order of steps involved in processing an order from receiving an order from a customer, and finally delivering a product to a customer. This business process is important as it delivers the satisfaction to the customer based on the final product that was created using all four business processes.
Product development is the process in which I feel is the most important business process as it is the make or break process in creating a product. As discussed earlier, each product needs to designed to the wants and needs of the customer. During this stage, and according to Mital (2008) product development creates an opportunity to produce a high-quality product that is needed and wanted, and if any shortcoming in this achievement occur, then the outcome of the product is certainly going to result in loss of competitiveness in the global market. This process is essential to getting to the order fulfillment business process and ensuring the product is successful in the market. Altogether each business process has its importance in creating a successful product for the customer.
