In this essay, the focus of discussion is upon the comparison of two different paintings of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec’s “At the Moulin Rouge” and Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s “Bal du Moulin de la Galette.”
In the painting “At the Moulin Rouge” by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec the painting highlights the scene of a bar, “Moulin Rouge” with people enjoying dancing, drinking, and music. The bar was made famous with frequent visits from Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec who can be seen in the painting himself. For the composition, there can be noticed plain furniture with people of different classes who seem to indulge in various conversations. There is space among different groups and people which compels the eye to see a group separated from the rest indulged into an in-depth discussion (Elderfield, 2004). 
In the other piece of art “Bal du Moulin de la Galette” by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, the focus is on the pleasure and well-being of people. The name of the painting illustrates a place Moulin de la Gallete, which was an outdoor dance hall which had outdoor food, music, and dancing where people would mingle with each other and spend time together. The composition of the painting clearly illustrates how frequent the movement of people is and it gives a strong sense of amusement (Elderfield, 2004). 
In contrast, there is a difference in the composition of both the paintings. In “At the Moulin Rouge” different groups can be noticed, and the overall outlook of the painting can be viewed as each person minding their own business. Whereas in the “Bal du Moulin de la Galette” the people in the painting are enjoying and mingling with each other around them. 
Towards a conclusion the difference in compositing and understanding of both the paintings must be noticed. Both the artists are French and have painted it near the end of the 18th century which highlights how the people started to enjoy themselves after the dark period Paris went through.
