1. Think about your health issue.
2. Clarify if you are working on a health communication, health intervention or healthcare
innovation to address some aspect of improving awareness, education, prevention, diagnosis, or
treatment.
3. State your OVERALL goal(s). Use this framework for SMART Goals:

4. Now come up with a detailed plan to reach your overall (goals). Please include the following….
a. What is the name of your health communication campaign, health intervention or
healthcare communication?
b. Who is your focus population (remember we can’t be everything to everyone. The more
specific you are the better, especially in terms of age, gender, race/ethnicity, geographic
location, etc.).
c. Who should be a part of your project team? Think about what expertise is needed.
d. What resources do you need?
e. How will you involve your focus population to solicit their input?
f. What are the detailed steps needed for you to reach your overall goal(s) related to
making improvements to your selected health issue?
g. Please include a timeline outlining the steps. How long is this going to take to plan,
develop and implement your project?
h. You may want to review materials from other classes (in addition to this one), such as
Health Communication (health communication); Society, Community and Health (health
interventions); and Healthcare Innovations (healthcare innovations)
i. Please be as detailed and as thorough as possible in your explanations.
5. Please include at least one logo, flyer, or other marketing material for your project as well
(these can be put in the appendix and do not count towards the 4-5 page requirement).
6. All papers should be at least 5-6 full pages. Please include citations as needed if you use any
outside sources (it is not mandatory that you use outside sources, but if you do, please cite
appropriately). Papers should be double-spaced, 12-point font, and 1-inch margins. Please
include a title (health topic), page numbers, and your name on each page.
