You are going to be reviewing a published case study report on a patient. Case Study reports are created
when a patient has a unique, rare, or unusual diagnosis. It could also be used for ethical situations and
cases. These reports are published to medical journals and used for medical practitioners to learn and
understand the more unusual or unique findings for specific disorders. This assignment is worth 50
points and has several parts, be sure to complete it all and follow ALL directions for full credit.
1- Use this site to choose a case report that interest you- SAGE Open Medical Case Reports: SAGE
Journals (sagepub.com) Note that you can filter these by most popular, most recent, specific
categories of diseases or body systems, etc. Do not just choose the first one on the screen. You
will need to download the PDF copy of this report to upload with your assignment.
2- Read the case study fully. As you are reading highlight any terms that are unfamiliar. Remember
these are rare cases so there could be a lot of terms you do not understand. Look them up or
use your medical terminology skills to break them down.
3- Provide a 1-page summary of the case report using your own words.
a. Summary should be double spaced, 12 pt font, times new roman (10 points)
4- Choose 40 terms from the case study that are medical terms. You are going to break these
terms down into the prefix, roots, and suffixes and define each term. (40 points-1 per term)
Follow the directions below specifically for full credit!
a. On page two (after the summary) you will start a dictionary list of your terms.
b. Type out the term.
c. Number the terms 1-40.
i. Bold any prefixes.
ii. Underline any suffixes.
iii. Italicize the root(s)
iv. Separate the prefix/suffix/combining vowel/root(s) with a forward slash. ( / )
v. Define each word.
5- Upload the following to D2L.
a. PDF Version of the case report downloaded from Sagepub.com
b. Your Case Report Word Document
i. Page 1 is your summary of the study.
ii. Page 2 and beyond is your 40 terms.
