In academics, plagiarism refers to the illegal presentation of other author’s ideas, expressions, language, or context as one’s own work. Students presenting the author’s article content as their own original work is considered as academic dishonest and breach of the author’s ethics. The academic suspension has been used as a disciplinary action to prohibit plagiarism among students. While disciplinary action is vital to the PMU students’ academic performance and the outsides world, there are however, some complain that have been received concerning the punishment among the students. Despite the complaints, academic suspension due to plagiarism should be embraced in institutions that value the quality of their education to the outside world. Plagiarism is considered ignorance and laziness, which can be transferred from learning institutions to the outside world of employment. Employers there outside are always in search of fresh graduates who have graduated from accredited universities or colleges. According to Masic (2019), graduates with the ability to independently solve problems have strong work ethic commitment as well as those who maintain high education integrity are highly considered and given the priority in recruitment exercise. With these essential requirements, it hence becomes a hurdle for the students who have been practicing plagiarism in their academic level to get a good job. Lazy students who find it difficult to undertake their assignments without copy-pasting or avoiding plagiarism in any means also find it a challenge in the outside world to solve complex problems. With the high level of education, such graduates may hence remain unemployed as they fail to fit in the most demanding and well-paying jobs academically. Engineering is one of the marketable courses considered by majority in the modern world. The course is a practical based one, and integrity and keenness among the students is required to effectively understand the concepts of engineering (Nagaraju, 2018). Through plagiarism, students may not, however, understand the vital evidence-based concepts necessary for effective engineering training. This may, in one way or the other, negatively impact the results of the patient care output. Lack of essential evidence-based engineering practices and skills may negatively affect country’s economy (Prakash, & Badrinath, 2016). Arguably, students who attain their degrees through plagiarism hence lack the essential skills that can add value to the economy. The level of the skills and knowledge in their minds does not reflect what is pictured in their certificates. Hence why employers highly consider the level of skills rather than academic documents. Academic integrity and honesty are, therefore, crucial to the graduates who wish to secure well-paying jobs after their education. To avoid plagiarism, students should avoid copy-pasting the original content from the research sources by reading carefully and trying to rewrite the content afresh according to their understanding. Academic suspension for plagiarism at PMU should, therefore, be encouraged to avoid laziness and ignorance among the students.
