Ethical Reflection Assignment Instructions

Overview

Ethical dilemmas are common in healthcare environments. Some stem from the conflict between patient/family desires and professional providers’ experiences. Some are created due to breakdown in communication and teamwork. Some are a result of an error, such as a medication error or wrong surgical site error. And yet others result from healthcare inequality and vulnerable populations.

You will write about an event that has occurred in your professional practice area in which an error was made, an ethical dilemma arose, or a breakdown in team work, collaboration, and communication among the healthcare team negatively impacted a patient’s care or health outcome.

Instructions

Reflect upon this situation through an explanation of the occurrence. Explain how this event offered you new insight to your role on the health care team. Describe how the details of this event could be used in a proactive manner to ensure that similar events are avoided in the future. Consider the provisions in the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses or other professional code of ethics and your Biblical Worldview.

Your assignment must be 2 – 4 pages (not including the title and reference pages) and written in current APA format. You must cite 2 – 3 peer-reviewed journal articles published within the last 5 years to support your thoughts.
