Topic 1: Planning for Business Success Using Problem-Solving Models, Integrative Thinking

In your first week of the team business simulation, you have started making decisions on the simulation by organizing the firm. This first quarter sets up the foundation for the rest of the game and will require integrated thinking skills if you are to be successful.

In your Reading for this week, you learned about integrative thinking in Riel and Martin (2014), “The Opposable Mind: How Successful Leaders Win through Integrative Thinking.” You have also learned about the Balanced Scorecard, a version of which is used to evaluate performance in the Marketplace simulation. You will also be completing the workshop “Problem Solving and Decision Making: Achieving Desired Results” in the Learning Activity. In this discussion, respond to the following:

Main post

· Select a problem that you are currently facing. This could be a personal, professional, or class team-related problem. Walk through how you could be solving it effectively using Steps 1–5 of the 6-step problem-solving model found in the “Problem Solving and Decision Making: Achieving Desired Results” workshop. Explain how you would incorporate Step 6, Follow Up & Evaluate Progress.

· Identify the elements of integrative thinking from the Riel and Martin reading that would be helpful to you as you work through the problem you have selected.

· If applicable, discuss how your readings and research provide tools to help you work with others in this problem-solving effort.
