Description:

Introduction to music theory and application of rhythm, meter, scales, intervals, triads, musical terminology with the development

of aural and keyboard skills. Writing assignments, as appropriate to the discipline, are part of the course. No credit toward graduation.

Course

Objectives:

~ Become well versed in the fundamentals of rhythm, harmony and melody to begin reading/writing music notation

~ Appreciate the full scope of study and practice required to become a music professional

Learning

Outcomes:

~ Read and notate rhythmic values, meters, major and minor keys/scales, intervals, triads and 7th chords

~ Compose a 12-bar blues melody using manuscript and/or music notation software
