In the 1960s, high school and college students wanted greater relevance to their studies. One part of this was a demand that schools be part of the process of social change. Can schools be more effective agents of social change? Should they be? What could be done to give students a stronger sense of their own agency, not only for learning but for taking what they learn outside the classroom and contributing to the changes going on around them?
