Discussion: Client comfort and end-of-life care

Discussion: Client comfort and end-of-life care

Client comfort and end-of-life care” from the choices.

This is a 5-stage case starting with Ms. Longly and her family members.

1. Write 150 words on how you would change your clinical practice based on your experience with this tutorial. •

A change that I will make in the clinical practice is taking time to listen to my patient when they have family in the room that are arguing. In this scenario, the mother is dying and her daughters and grandchildren are being disruptive and arguing with each other. As a nurse, it’s our job to make sure that the patient is comfortable during this time and that any stressors are dealt with swiftly. If I notice that the patient’s family is arguing, or disturbing the patient in any way, then I’ll make sure to intervene and find a solution to their problem. I will try to remind the family that their family member needs to have a sufficient amount of rest, with as little distractions as possible, such as siblings arguing with each other and children who constantly scream at each other. Most importantly, as I mentioned earlier, I will do my best to focus on the patient at this time. However, even though I’m focusing on the patient I won’t neglect the family’s needs, but the patient and their comfort does come first. If the patient is awake and responding then I will make sure to ask them questions instead of constantly referring to their family. The patient knows their wishes the best, so it’s always good to ask them a question when you need an answer.

2. Answer the following question accurately and completely. Include a citation to the reference you used. According to the State Board of Nursing in your state, what is the Registered Nurses responsibility in treating a patient’s pain?

3. Answer the following question accurately and completely. Include a citation from the state statute or rule that answers this issue: Based on the laws of Florida state, if a patient does not have a medical power of attorney, who are the next three people responsible to make medical decisions for the patient?

4. Answer the following question accurately and completely. Include a citation from the state statute or rule that answers this issue: What is defined by state law as a patient being incapacitated?
