Text : Calculus. 8th Edition, by Stewart.

Prerequisites : Minimum grade of C in Math 7B or Math 9 or placement based on the Math assessment process.

Course Description : Limits and continuity; differentiation and integration of algebraic functions; applications.

Student Learning Outcomes (SLO): 1. Demonstrate the rigorous definition of the limit, and how it applies to differential and integral calculus. 2. Calculate the derivative using the definition and the properties of differentiation and apply derivatives to geometric and dynamic problems. 3. Integrate, use the integral in application and relate the integral to the derivative.

Attendance: You are required to attend all class sessions; please be on time! Excessive absences will affect overall class performance. I have the right to drop you if you miss 10 or more hours of class. Note that 3 tardies (if you are less than 10 minutes late) are considered the equivalent of one absence and that if you are more than 10 minutes late you are considered ABSENT, NOT TARDY.

Homework: Homework will be assigned each day class meets. You must put in 1.5 to 2 hours practice working homework for each hour of class.

Material Covered : Chapters: 1 – 5.

Tests : There will be five tests and a final exam given during the semester. You will be notified well in advance. There will be no make-ups for missed tests, no matter what the reason. I will drop your lowest test score. You must have 6 blue books (5 for 5 tests and 1 for final exam)

Cheating Policy : Cheating constitutes academic dishonesty and, in general will be handled as part of the course grading process. Penalty may range from no credit for the assignment up to and including exclusion and/or an “F” grade for the course.
