This book is available online through the UW Libray system (if it is hard for you to access please let me know).  Please read 1) The Preface, 2) Chapter 1: Seeing Modern China,
Please write a 1-2 page summary for EACH of the two chapters.  In your summary include the title of the chapter and what you think the author’s main focus (her main argument) is.  Identify what objects the author is analyzing (what is she looking at, what is the topic of this chapter).
