For this unit, you’ve read McGeough and King’s chapter on Kenneth Burke and pentadic criticism in Rhetorical Criticism. The chapter does a nice job of summarizing a complex theory that Burke himself writes about in book-length works. I’d like you to experience reading a bit of Burke’s own writing on the pentad. Here Download Hereis a copy of the first ten pages of Burke’s Grammar of Motives. Have a look though it and respond to it in a post of about 300 words or so — you could, for example, pick some idea or point of his that you find interesting and/or notable. Burke’s writing is often dense and complex and while this is actually more readily readable than some of what he writes, it still takes some work to process, so just do your best with it.
