Lets create a plan of care using a visual format that allows us to see the correlation between medical treatment and nursing care. The document contains a conversation between an RN and the patient.Based on the information from the conversation, you will complete the Concept Map
Module 4
Mike Wilson
Mike: Hi Miss. Laura can I lay down for a bit?
Nurse Laura: Sure Mike. How is everything going?
Mike: Great. I just got the lead in the play. Can’t wait.
Nurse Laura: That’s great! How are your grades?
Mike: Great! I just got an A in physics- nailed it!
Nurse Laura: Wow, youre having a really good week. Hows baseball? I heard you were talking
to a college coach for next year.
Mike: Yep! Im sure to get the scholarship if I keep playing well and keep my grades up to meet
the schools grade requirements for acceptance.
Nurse Laura: Between your classes, the school play and baseball do you have any time to relax?
That’s a lot to juggle.
Mike: It’s ok. I’ve been involved in a lot since I was a kid. Im used to it by now.
Nurse Laura: Is it really OK? Youve been coming to my office a lot lately.
Mike: Ummm… yea, its great. Ive just been getting frequent headaches, no big deal.
Nurse Laura: Mike, it’s just us.
Mike: Im good. I can handle it all.
Nurse Laura: Mike, just an observation but your eyes have circles under them. The headaches,
the pressure of keeping up your grades and doing well in baseball for that scholarship must be a
lot for you. And now you have the school play.
Mike: Im just so busy. Mom and Dad are thrilled about a scholarship. I’ve got to get it. Great
school. Great opportunity. I just need to stay focused.
Nurse Laura: That’s a lot of stress and a lot of time spent doing things. Are you sleeping?
Mike: I can’t sleep at night. I try, but my mind races when I think of everything I need to do. I
just need to keep focused and it will all work out. Once I have the scholarship then things will
calm down.
Nurse Laura: How much are you sleeping at night?
Mike: Most nights, maybe three hours. I have practice until 9pm then I have to have dinner and
shower. I start my homework around 11pm and finish around 2 or 3 am. I toss and turn when I
do go to sleep, and I have to get up for school by 6.
Nurse Laura: Mike, how long have you not been sleeping?
Mike: Honestly, this has been going on all year but its just now starting to get really bad. I find I
am getting mad easily and I am having to study harder because I just cant focus. Im so tired.
