MEDC0038 Assignment

Preparation of Written Report

1. The written report contributes 80% of the mark towards the module.

2. The written report is intended to examine your understanding of food provision and nutritional status in different population (s) and setting (s). It will also examine the clinical, social and environmental context of malnutrition. The prevalence of community malnutrition and its many determinants will also be assessed.

3. The report will provide you with an opportunity to find information in the scientific literature, organise this literature and critically evaluate nutritional problems in the UK population. It is also intended to help you demonstrate a critical approach to the analysis of malnutrition.

4. You should select one of the settings which interests you most and write about that one, even if it is not the place you reported on in the group presentations. You may briefly discuss the other sites you have not chosen for comparison and contrasting purposes.

5. Site visits have been organised to help you in your preparation for the written report. Details of these site visits including the dates and times and locations are contained within the “Site Visits” folder on the module moodle page.

6. The written report should be 2,000 words (excluding tables, figures and appendices), fully referenced, word processed, Arial font, size 11, and 1.5 line spaced. You should use Harvard referencing style. The recommended structure of the report is outlined for you below, with some guidance on what you should include in each section.
