MAKING CARE BETTER
Due April 23rd
Having access to health care is not enough: patients who enter the health care systemwhether a clinic, a hospital, or another venueneed to be confident that they will receive care that is safe, effective, and consistent with the latest clinical evidence.
Despite a national strategy in which our government, through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) essentially pushes most hospitals to get accredited, patient outcomes often lag.
We are all about making health care better better for patients, better for providers, better for practices. Better health care all around.
Making Care Better (MCB) is designed to improve our healthcare culture by fostering relationships that improve communication and teamwork, resulting in enhanced reliability and efficiency. The MCB elements support the overarching themes of collaboration, communication, patient engagement, and care management.
As an Advanced Practice Nurse, you have the opportunity to make care better. By engaging yourself in all aspects, such as being involved in quality improvement of patient care, patient satisfaction, patient safety and staff satisfaction, you can make a difference. While we can address issues specific to our own work areas, we also need to look beyond our boundaries and examine wider issues such as those concerning not only admitted patients, but patients in outpatient settings as well.
The MCB concept has revealed bottlenecks that interfere with patient flow’, quality care, and patient satisfaction and provided us with an opportunity to gear up our resources to improve these processes.
The MCB elements fall under two buckets: Communication/Tcamwork and Care Redesign.
Some initiatives in place are:
The 3 E’s Empathy
Understanding the patient
Providing your patient with the “small stuft”
Empowerment
Staff / Colleagues Evidenced based research Engagement
