Liberal/Conservative Analytical Essay
The student will produce an analytical essay designed to demonstrate whether he or she is a political liberal, conservative, or moderate. The paper has four parts-Introduction. Ten Issues, Analysis, and Conclusion.
The Paper should begin with a brief introduction, stating your purpose for writing the essay and describing what you plan to present in the paper. You can gain a point or two for a clever introduction.
Part II The paper will consist of giving your opinion on ten contemporary issues, such as abortion, euthanasia, gun control, government health care, socialism, prayer/Bible reading in school, gay rights, energy production, immigration/open borders, global warming, affirmative action, use of torture, feminism, terrorism, social security, animal rights, nuclear power/weapons, voter ID, hate crimes, political correctness, criminal rights, and many others. The statement of your opinion on the issues should be brief (approximately 200 words) and to the point. In addition to stating your position on ten issues, it is important that you briefly give the rationale by which you arrived at your point of view. You do not need to include the liberal and conservative positions, just your own opinion. You will not be graded on your political beliefs; your grade will be based on how well you state your opinions.
