Abstract
Purpose: Excessive alcohol consumption among women are of special concern to public health.
This study examines data on alcohol consumption by women in Georgia collected through a
national survey in 2011 and 2016.
Methods: Data for the study were from telephone interviews of 14362 adults aged ?18 years
residing in Georgia that participated in the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS)
from 2011 to 2016. A total of 8977 women were analyzed. Measures focused on alcohol use (any
1 drink in the past 30 days) and binge drinking (four or more drinks per occasion for women) and
on the intensity (average # of drinks) of binge drinking in the past 30 days. The BRFSS Online
Analysis Tool was used to determine if differences in alcohol drinking patterns were significant
in 2011 and 2016, percent change in prevalence and p-values were computed using the BRFSS
online analysis tool.
Results: Overall ,8977 women were analyzed. Significant increases in percent change of
prevalence in past month alcohol use from 2011 to 2016 were particularly notable among women
