1: A Breakdown of the Brief
SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT
Individual presentation (10 minutes)
You are required to create a 10-minute video presentation on a new consumer-facing innovation concept
proficient enough to be further developed and implemented by businesses operating within the wider
fashion industry.
Notes…
 Requirement to meet the 10-minute video, not less, not more.
 When we’re asking for a new consumer facing innovation concept, this could be a product or a
service e.g. an app, a retail store innovation, an online shopping support, a new product. Whilst
you may require business support (e.g. retail partners, developers, etc.) the fundamental outcome
of your innovation must be aimed at your target consumer.
 For the innovation to be proficient enough to be further developed and implemented we are looking
for you to demonstrate knowledge of your chosen market and consumer and a sound business
case for why this innovation will be successful.
Your presentation can take the form of a narrated PowerPoint, an animation, or short film, saved as a video
and uploaded to Vimeo. Please note that video must have a narrative (video commentary or embedded
voice-over) voiced by you
Notes…
It’s entirely up to you which application or software you chose to create your video from.
 You could create a PowerPoint presentation, add automatic transition and animations, add an
embedded voiceover, then: File > Export > Create Video as Mpeg.4 file. More help on this is
available from LinkedIn Learning here (title – Creating Videos from PowerPoint Presentations)
 You could create a ‘v-log’ style video using a camera or your phone and again, save it in a video
format ready for the Vimeo upload. Remember, must have a narrative or embedded voiceover.
 You could also get really creative and do an animation or a short film so long as you add
the narrative or embedded voiceover.
 LinkedIn Learning has a wealth of support videos so ensure you use that to take you through
the steps. The video on using Apple’s iMovie is also very good, options in right hand pane.

BSc (Hons) Fashion Management) Year 2 Fashion Futures
You will investigate and develop a concept for a new innovation, which should be consumer-facing.
You should be able to reference key elements that have been taught during the unit and address the
following areas:
 The innovation concept (introduce and explain the proposed customer-facing innovation)
 What current business issue (or barrier) the innovation is targeted to solve
 What the innovation aims to achieve and what the potential benefits are for businesses
 Who the innovation is targeted at
 The benefits to the consumer
 The barriers to acceptance
 The roadmap for implementation
Notes…
These seven elements are key parts that you need to include in your presentation. You should refer to your
lectures to help you position your ideas here. All lectures and seminars will aid your understanding of the
subject area and help inspire your idea. In terms of tackling specifics of the brief, these particular sessions
will really help you:
 Week 2 – What is Innovation, Taxonomies of Innovation, Adoption and Diffusion
 Week 3 – The TAM Model
 Week 7 – Future of Consumer, Future of Product and Retail
 Week 8 – CX Management, Business Model Innovation
 Week 10 – The Circular Economy, Innovation Roadmap
 Week 11 – Pitching Innovation, Innovation and Finance
Remember to also use the UHB and the reading lists from the lectures to help support further research.
You will need to illustrate how you have applied the theory learned to create a new idea, proficient enough
to be taken to industry.
It’s very important to use academic research for your project. Business articles (Business of Fashion,
Harvard Business Review, Forbes, Drapers) are good but you need the academic theory from journals and
core texts to underpin your analysis.
You will also be required to showcase how learned theories (particularly from the above listed lectures)
support your thought process.
You will upload your final work onto Vimeo (as a password-protected video) and then submit the URL
(hyperlinked) including the password onto Moodle via Turnitin (Feedback Studio) using the supplied
submission form.
It’s essential that you check that your link and password are correct and working when you add them to
your submission form. Be sure to check your hyperlinks and the spelling of your password (including
where you have used upper or lower- case letters). The submission form is available on Moodle under the
folder ‘Assessment Tools’.
Please note:
2
Any submissions that do not include an active hyperlink and working password will not be able to be
marked and therefore will be graded as non-submissions. Please therefore take the time to ensure
that your link and your passwords work correctly.
