2. Explain how Hughes’ word choice seeks to establish a realistic setting of the black church especially during a religious revival meeting during the time that the story was written.
3. Explicate on the word “salvation” in the story. Why does Hughes expect salvation when he accompanies Auntie Reed to church?
4. Discuss the moral of the story. Simply put, what important truth does Langston want his audience to learn from his experience?
5. Discuss at least one of the stereotypes of the black church as highlighted in the story. For example, the mourners bench was a mainstay for a longtime.
