Begin Composing an Argument Based on a Definition Essay p. 117
Step 1 – Choose a word from the list of abstract terms on p. 117 in your text. Think about its implications for a few minutes, and then write a definition that captures its meaning and significance for you, freewriting without structure or planning.
Step 2 – Take what you’ve written and fashion it into an argument essay. In the process of defining your term, arrive at a significant point and support your position, or thesis. You will argue your point to use the term you are defining as a springboard for a complete written argument. You must include specific details to animate your abstraction.
