LO1: Compare and discuss the pros and cons of a Lean approach with non-lean
approaches in one or more sectors.
LO2: Select appropriate tools and techniques to support the design and management of
lean operations.
LO3: Develop Lean concepts for new or existing operations.
LO4: Critically evaluate how “Lean Thinking” challenges the management and leadership
of operations within and between business partners.
Each of the above outcomes will be assessed according to the criteria set out in the Feedback
and Assessment Rubric that is provided on the module Moodle site.
Q1 – addresses LO1 and LO2
Compare the application of Lean in traditional manufacturing to its application in another sector
by identifying where Lean principles can be transferred/adopted and by also identifying where
the extension of lean may be problematic. You can chose a manufacturing or a nonmanufacturing/service sector, but it should not be automotive.

Q2 – addresses LO2 and LO3
Analyse the Current State Value Stream Map for HomeFix Ltd and from this develop a Future
State VSM for the first step in the company’s Lean transformation. This should show the
selection of appropriate lean concepts along with supporting notes that explain and justify the
use of lean tools and techniques.
