Students will be asked to choose an education policy or issue area concerning education and, using the conceptual resources presented in the course, develop a critical analysis of that policy or issue area in the form of a 2500 word report. The topic of the essay needs to be a personal development of your own choice drawing on the theoretical and methodological concepts addressed in the course.

Structure:

Introduction: (250 words)
1. What is the problem that the policy is aiming to address?
2. What is this problem of? (global? National?)
3. Who is the object of this policy? (students? Teachers?)

Main Body: (1800 words)
1. Is the policy a part of large global trend? (Ex: Isomorphism)
2. How was the policy adopted?
3. How was the problem be solved or legitimated?
4. What force might be at work? (mimetic? Normative? Coercive?)
5. Can it be explained by any theories? (Ex: Neoliberalism? Globalization?)
