It believes in providing the right of happy childhood, making them feel safe, nourished, and generating hope for the future. The organization is started in 1877, as a care center for left alone babies and unsupported mothers. The organization ensures the fulfillment of basic safety, balance, love, and support.The prime beliefs of the organization focus on the right of good childhood and supporting the children and their families to handle the complex issues that they experience in their life in the form of abuse, ignorance, or violence. To be able to do so, the organization tries to shape good relations with its clients and make them believe in their future as they need to learn again that how to trust others. Their job is to remain with them even when they have been let down.They usually help children in getting out from the injury of abuse, neglection, and violence as it believes that with support and possibilities children and young individuals can reach up to their full potential. The employees of the organization overcome the challenging behavior of the children and explore their strengths as it is known that every individual has its own ability that can provide a rich platform for healthy development.In the development and care for children, the inclusion of parents is very significant as for the appropriate growth of children strong connections are required for building positive relationships. It is also important to respect every culture, community, spiritual belief and religion in order to develop one’s own identity and the sense of being oneself. Along with the parents and families, the clients are also involved in the decision making of children care program as it is them who need to control their lives that will make them resilient as well as independent. The young individual and children rights are also being appreciated by Berry Street for the overall improvement of the society.A division of Berry Street is the Berry Street Childhood Institute that adds on to the overall outcomes for the disadvantaged children who have been strengthened with the service capabilities from practitioners, systems, and communities. The work areas are equipped by the subject matter experts whose work is also shared with other practitioners. The work includes educating, home care, family well being, youth engagement, and serving aboriginal community.Recently Berry Street has started a progressive training course that has enabled challenging students to engage themselves with the program. This will improve the students’ self-regulation, enhancement, and academic growth. It was BSEM Pilot program in which students have achieved two year growth in a one year program after implementing their education model. It had a special focus on Training and Development and Youth engagement.Identified gaps/problemsThe gap identified by the Berry Street in childhood is the complex behavior generally shown by children in their childhood that has a relational context with child and family well being program and is perhaps the cause for it. This kind of relational approach is equipped with the clinical expertise concerned with the learning and development opportunities that provide the practitioners with the development of relational awareness and skills for empathically working with children, young individuals, and families; enhancing the resilience, creativity, and peculiarity for working in different contexts. Practitioners would also require space for critical reflection on their practice for achieving personal and professional growth.The other gaps or issues identified with young population are their engagement with work, fostering and affinity care of children as well as lack of educational model for young children.It is no doubt that youth participation fosters the benefit of program in terms of popularity, revenue, and sales but there are certain barriers to their participation as follows:Lack of trust by youth in decision making systemLack of information about the method of getting involved in the programsThey don’t have enough time for participation due to other work commitments as well as family and friends.They sometimes stay far off and don’t have right conveyance for commuting.They may be deficit in certain special skills regarding verbal skills and public speaking.Some youths have low socio-economic status suffering from poverty.They are not confident about the other staff members and have insufficient resources for the same.Young population also has insufficient power for initiating the change in organization.Young individuals also have a stereotypical image and negative social behavior towards society.They are not clear about their roles and responsibilities.They often practice discrimination on the basis of class and income by outcasting lower income backgrounds and following higher income group.Youths are generally scared or inexperienced to face any intermediary crisis that damages the potential of young people for participation in a consistent manner (Australian Infant, Child, Adolescent and Family Mental Health Association, 2008).The educational model is an effort to sort the kind of education children are receiving. Australian schools nowadays are unable to meet the basic education needs of students. There are 10% of students who have not developed their proficiency in numerical subject. There are 42% students not proficient in literacy and 20% strength also comprises those children who have not been prepared to go to school.Following these skill gaps which include technical capabilities, critical thinking capacity, and character qualities, the basic education starts with making children literate. Students should have basic reading and writing skills and must learn the way to adapt and survive in continuously changing world and technology (Good to Great Schools).The third issue is concerned with child and family well being. There are many families who are experiencing or have experienced homelessness. Such people suffer from other health and emotional issues such as mental health, educational, and developmental challenges. To promote the social awareness amongst different people there should be an effective assessment of home and service needs. There should be an innovative address to the needs of homeless and uneducated people (Haskett, 2017).Aims of the ProjectThe broad aims of the project are engaging youth in the workplace sector, developing a street educational model, fostering and kinship care, and Child & Family well being. The ideas of this project are the result of collaboration of Berry Street Take Two Clinical program and Berry Street Childhood Institute.The Berry Street Educational Model is a program started for training for teachers to make them able for enhancing their engagement with challenging students and as a result improve their self-regulation, growth, and academic success. The model has been designed to encounter day to day challenges of school that can leave an impression on their success factors in school. These challenges may include stressful life or no family support in a traumatic situation.Under this model there are special strategies, training problem, and curriculum designed specifically for handling complex students. These problems would be overcome by the initiatives like positive education, trauma realization, and healthy practices responsible for educational and personal success. The model is unique in its own way as it tells the organization about the reinforcement and sustainability of cognitive and behavioral repercussions that re-engages the young people to achieve academic excellence.The factors that play a crucial role in establishing this model are the expertise of instructors, peer collaboration and opportunities. With the effective use of these factors the students can take a pilot test of their learned strategies with adequate support provided in between the sessions. After pilot test it was found that the mainstream schools the affect of the education model turns into better engagement, wellbeing and behavior.The five domains in which this model is found to be effective are body through the physical capacity of the students by regulating their response towards stress, de-escalation, and concentration; building relationship through classroom management strategies; building stamina by inculcating flexibility, emotional intelligence, and growth mindset; engagement with the students by enhancing the willingness in students to learn and be motivated; and harnessing human values and moral strength for impregnating the students’ self-knowledge to be used for future growth.Youth engagement is purely based on the exchange of knowledge. The disadvantaged and painful periods are often considered to be the best for cognitive and skill development. It is about understanding the real life implications of the policies and decisions being made. These understandings can be developed only when the youth share their painful experiences with the others and the right entity i.e. individuals and systems to be approached for support. This way the youth not only get trained but also get employment opportunities based on their skills and knowledge.Foster and Kinship care is a new wave going in Australia. Under this wave, there are many programs offering human resources, training packages previous kinship reports on workers and policymakers.The abuse, ignorance, and violence against any child are always damaging and have negative impacts. For better understanding of the trauma that the child goes through there are out of home care workers informing about the development, affinity, injury, and needs of the child. It is a tough job for the frontline workers to have effective interventions in a short span of time. This equally goes for Torres Srait Islander community and aboriginals that include vulnerable children and families. It also plans the project in such a way that the target groups be benefitted directly from it. Hence, it needs to define the aims and objectives of the project clearly to its team members. The activities must be planned in a manner that suits the needs of the targeted group. It should consider location, time, and cultural sense of the target population before being designed.It must take into account the Resource Planning in terms of funding, association with external stakeholders, community engagement, and other training resources for successfully completing the project. Appropriate schedules also need to be developed for conducting meetings amongst the internal and external stakeholders with properly defining the meeting agenda and timeline of the activities to be completed.
