ASSIGNMENT: SIMPLE GEOMETRY

Quick SIMPLE GEOMETRY LAB DUE TONIGHT by 10 pm
Materials:

Five large round objects (larger objects work better) such as a paper plate, soup can, paper towel roll, bike wheel, clock, etc.

Meterstick or metric sewing tape. If you do not have millimeters on your measuring device, please use this printable ruler .

Sewing thread or thin string to measure the circumference and diameter of each round object.

Project Steps:

With thread (or sewing tape if available), determine the amount of string needed to represent the circumference and diameter of each of your round objects.

Use a meterstick or tape measure to measure the string length for the circumference and diameter to the nearest millimeter (tenth of a centimeter).

Record your measurements in a table like the one that follows.

Calculate the ratio of the circumference to the diameter, C over D, and record the answers in your table.

Calculate the average of your C over D results.

Name of Object

Circumference ( C )

Diameter ( D )

C over D

What is the average value of your calculated C over D ratios?

What do you notice about the ratio of C over D?
