In at least 400 words, analyze a scene from a motion picture (or a whole short film).
Start by making a table to organize your thoughts. Use three columns: What, How, and Interpretation. Each row will be for a shot.
The What will refer to what is happening in a given shotlike, A woman wakes up, walks on cobblestones, then goes upstairs with her eyes closed. The How will refer to the manipulation of the motion picture medium itselflike, Closeup on a face, jump cut to exterior high-angle shot, dissolve to POV shot in stairwell that occasionally flickers on and off. And finally, Interpretation will seek to bring the What and How together to make meaning (Well discuss this in class a bit)like, The flickering cuts to black communicate the closing of eyelids. In the context of the sequence, the woman who wakes up is a student, she walks to class, and sleepily climbs the stairs to class.
Again, Each shot should get a row. Try and fill it in as best you can and use this table to begin writing your response.
