Assessment 1 Brief – Strategic Report

Module title Application and Integration
Assignment title Strategic Report
Weighting in module 30%
Submission deadline 9th July 2018 9am
Required length/word limit 4,000 words
Learning Outcomes addressed in this assignment The learning outcomes assessed by this task are:
1. Analyse a specific company/organisation/institution issue/problem within the field of Management
2. Evaluate the professional and academic management literature available by researching the subject area prior to the writing of the report

Rationale:
The purpose of this assessment is to apply theories and frameworks covered in class to a business context. The strategic report provides you with the opportunity to apply theory to practice and requires students to undertake substantial reading into strategic management theory. Students will develop research and literature skills, skills in evaluating, summarising and synthesising academic work as well as skills in written expression and communication.

Task:
The strategic report should conduct a strategic analysis of an organisation, its environment and address some key areas which are related to your area of specialisation.
The report allows you to select and analyse as you wish, but the following instructions should be understood as the marking guide is related to them. There are four steps/areas which need to be addressed:

1. Firstly, you must choose an organisation, and industry and a country in which the analysis will be conducted.
2. Secondly you must undertake a strategic review at organisational, industry, country, regional and international levels.
3. Thirdly, you are to draw upon your area of specialisation (marketing, management, international business, accounting/finance) and complete the strategic task.
4. Fourthly you are to reflect on your entire course with regards to implementation of your strategic task.

Feedback:

All students will receive individual feedback on their assignment, including the opportunity to discuss this in an individual consultation session.

This provision may not apply to some modules where the timescale is infeasible given the demands of marking (e.g. project modules) or where feedback would not materially enhance the student’s progress (e.g. where it is worth 100% of the module marks).

Bad and Unfair Practice

Please familiarise yourself thoroughly with the University’s regulations on bad and unfair practice. Submission of your assignment will be taken as confirmation that you have read and understood these regulations. If in doubt, please seek guidance from academic stafF
